New Secretary Urgently Required

Owing to the resignation of the current secretary, Isle of Man Athletics is urgently seeking to appoint a new key team member.

Working on the Executive Committee of Isle of Man Athletics, the secretary has responsibility for managing the agenda and taking and publishing the minutes of the bi-monthly Isle of Man Athletics meetings along with the timely distribution of any emails to the general email inbox.  The secretary’s input into the meetings is very welcome.

This is not an onerous position and should take no longer than 2 hours a week.

If you think you would like to volunteer for this important role please email chairman@iomaa.info.   A full handover will be provided by the current secretary.

If this role isn’t for you but you would like to volunteer some of your time to assist the Isle of Man Athletics then please get in touch.

Many hands make light work!

We need you for cross country – Urgently!

The cross country season is nearly upon us and we urgently require a number of volunteers to assist the existing cross country committee.

Specifically we are looking for people who can help out on the administration side of the organisation registering the athletes, creating the entry lists and issuing numbers etc.

This is NOT an onerous job but it is vital for the smooth running of the Cross Country League.  The volunteers will be required for an initial sign on night 1-2 hours and then for 1-2 hours on the race days.  We are looking for a number of people so the duties can be shared.

If you you can spare a couple of hours each month then please email chairman@IOMAA.info or Andy Fox on andycfox@outlook.com

Thank you in advance.

Notice of Extraordinary General Meeting

An Extraordinary General Meeting of the Isle of Man Athletics Association has been arranged.

Date:  Monday 23rd January 2017

Time:  7pm

Venue:  Hydro Hotel, Queens Promenade, Douglas

Statement:

Following a very disappointing attendance at the IOMAA AGM it was agreed the meeting would be adjourned and an EGM would be scheduled early 2017.

As it stands, there is not enough support for the IOMAA to continue. Unless volunteers step forward at this EGM to offer some of their time to help lighten the load on the existing volunteers the IOMAA will be dissolved.

Whilst the Islands athletics clubs will no doubt continue their great work, they will have to do so without funding support from IOM Sport. There will be many other consequences to the IOM Athletics Association being dissolved and there is an inevitability that opportunities for our athletes will be affected.

If enough people volunteer a little of their time to help our sport will continue to flourish.

Become an Assistant Coach – Help our Sport!

Please help our sport!

Without enough qualified coaches, the success of the last few years cannot be repeated or improved upon.

A new generation is required to assist with the nurture our young people, to guide our current runners, throwers and jumpers and advise mature athletes returning or trying the sport for the first time.

This November Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th The IOMAA is staging a course facilitated by England Athletics to help you become an Assistant Coach, the first rung on the ladder to gaining your Coach Award.

It is open for all people over the age of 16.

The IOMAA is generously donating £100 towards the £245 fee and there is a further discount for being a club member.

If you are not a club member, please join one, as it will be cheaper than paying the extra £60.

Therefore please send a cheque to:
Michael George, 27 WOODBURN SQUARE, IM1 4DE, made out to IOMAA NOT England Athletics as it says on the form or BACS to 14347237 55-91-00 with Assistant Coach as the reference.

More information is available here.

I would be grateful to receive your application at your earliest convenience as time is no longer on our side and the Isle of Man must display enough enthusiasm for England Athletics to run the course.
