The New Isle of Man Athletics Association

Following the recent EGM the Isle of Man Athletics Association is pleased to announce a number of significant and positive changes to its structure and personnel.

It was agreed that four sub-committees were formed to look after various strands of the sport namely Finance, Competition, Development and High Performance and this would allow for a streamlined executive committee of Chair, Vice Chair, 4 sub-committee chairs and 5 club representatives.  It was felt that this structure would provide excellent governance whilst not being over burdensome on the individuals taking on the various roles.

The Executive IOMAA will be headed by Simon Sinclair agreed to act as interim Chair for a 3-month period until 30th April 2017. At that point, a new Chairperson will need to be appointed. Glen Hamilton is the new Vice Chair and Charlotte Christian remains Secretary.

The Finance Committee will be Chaired by the new Treasurer, Robbie Watterson, and he is joined by Committee members Ian Pilley, Sharon Hyatt, Jamie Blair, Patrick Margrave and Elissa Wood. Their remit will be to look after the accounts and raise money through sponsorship and fund raising.

Richard Sille has taken on the role of Head of Performance and he Chairs the High Performance Committee whose members include Alan Callow and Delia Fairclough, the current Commonwealth Games representatives.  They will be tasked with developing the pathway for our athletes to perform at the highest levels.  A coordinator is still required to organise the strength and conditioning training.

The Development Committee will be Chaired by the Athletics Development Officer.  This paid role will shortly be advertised.  This Committee includes the current YDL Manager Niamh Goddard and Bridget Kaneen who is looking after our officials and coaches.

The Competition Committee is divided into 5 further sub-committees covering Track & Field, Cross Country, Road Running, Fell Running and Walking. Janelle Quayle is the new Communications coordinator.  The Track and Field committee will look after the Island Championships and Open Meetings along with the YDL, Northern League and Island Games.  A number of people came forward to help out with this Committee however the position of Chair remains vacant.  The Cross Country Committee will look after the organisation of the Cross Country League and Championships and will be headed by Andy Fox.  Road Running will be looked after by Terry Bates,  Fell Running by Manx Fell Runners and Walking by Manx Harriers.  The Competition Committee still requires a Chairperson, a kit coordinator and a medal coordinator.

A number of positions are separate to this structure.  These are the Statisticians, Web Master and a newly required Welfare Officer.

As can be seen additional volunteers are required to help out with the committees, roles and tasks.  If you are interested lending a hand then please contact any of the committee members.  If you provided your details at the EGM then we will be in contact shortly.
